Cynthia Downing is the youngest daughter of Mrs. Emma Lou Downing and the late Deacon L. V. Downing, Sr. She is a native of Florida; mother of one daughter, Cyntoria and a recent grandmother of grandson JaMarcus.
Cynthia is an honors graduate Haines City Senior High School. She furthered her studies and matriculated at Warner Southern University and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management of Human Resources and a Master of Business Administration (MBA)from the University of Phoenix.
Cynthia enjoyed a successful twenty-five year career in the restaurant and hospitality industry and worked her way up to Director of operations in the Midwest and managing partner in Central Florida. She always had a passion for helping others reach their fullest potential and with her management and business skills it allowed her to start her own business as a Trainer and Coach.
She believes in giving back to her community and is very active. She is the former public relations coordinator for the Polk County Gospel Choir; former columnist for The Polk County Banner and The Quest. And she can be heard on the airwaves weekly hosting & Living Your Life On Purpose.
She is a life member of the Quad Cities (formerly Haines City Branch NAACP) where she currently holds the position of President. She has given leadership for over 10 years.
Cynthia believes in social justice and is an advocate for our people, this has afforded her the opportunity to participate on social and economic justice panels. Serving in this capacity allows her to bring awareness and new initiatives to her community and the surrounding areas.
Cynthia realizes that each person is unique and we are each endowed with the potential to learn, to grow, and to take our rightful place in doing what God has so gracefully gifted us to do. It is her faith that energizes her, propels her and keeps her grounded and faithfully going. She is an active and faithful and lifetime member of the New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Haines City, Florida where she serves in many ministries and on many boards and committees. She's a former Sunday school teacher, Newsletter editor, website administrator, and former President of the Shepherd’s Care Ministry.
She is the president of the Women’s Intermediate Auxiliary, a mission and education Auxiliary of the First South Florida Missionary Baptist District Association, where she has given leadership for ten years. She also serves as the Association’s newsletter editor and she serves in various state and national positions within the Women’s Intermediate Auxiliary.
She lives by the quote her dad often repeated, “To whom much is given, much is required”.
